Organization University of Victoria - CASS Extlink

$47,444.00 - $53,399.00 per annum plus performance range

The University of Victoria’s Systems division serves a diverse client base including students, faculty and world-renowned researchers. As part of a team whose goal is to implement the appropriate information systems that support the learning and teaching initiatives of the University, Learning Systems provide services and support for educational technologies, including but not exclusive to the learning management systems Moodle and Blackboard (WebCT), i>clicker, Turnitin and Mailman.

Working closely with our partners, the Learning and Teaching Centre, Distance Education Services, the McPherson Library and the newly created Educational Technology Advisory Council, we investigate emerging educational technologies and their integration into teaching and learning. We are a dynamic team of creative, innovative, and professional individuals who come together to consistently improve and ensure quality in the delivery of our systems and services.

Where do you fit in?
As a team member reporting to the Manager, you will interact directly with faculty members and instructional staff and quickly become indispensable as they come to rely on you for end-user support integrating technologies to enhance learning and teaching. This will require you to gain a deep knowledge of the products we support. You will support end users directly through email, phone and consultation regarding the use of learning management systems. You will be involved in the creation and presentation of tutorials, workshops, orientations, and information sessions. In providing consultation in course design and best practices in the use of online interactive tools and activities, you will help spread the use of educational technologies on this campus. Your communication and writing skills will allow you to create, evaluate and revise support materials on numerous application support websites for clients and other support staff using web, print, video and audio.

You will have opportunities to participate in research and development for the effective integration of educational technologies within face-to-face and hybrid courses. You will also be asked to perform other duties similar in scope and complexity.

Are you up for the challenge?

Do you have a related degree and experience with the use and integration of educational technologies for teaching and learning, or equivalent combination, together with proficient presentation skills, course design experience, and demonstrated ability to learn quickly and teach others about highly technical products, and have the capacity to work closely and collaboratively with team members?

You have in-depth knowledge of the Moodle and Blackboard (CE8) learning management systems, and have a basic knowledge and experience with blogs, wikis, video, and podcasting. You are proficient with website maintenance, content management and the creation of self-help video clips. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will serve you well in being able to exercise tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in assisting members of the university with their educational technology needs and impart knowledge in a non-threatening, welcoming environment. Your independent problem solving skills will enable you to work with limited supervision and to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, completing tasks with accuracy and attention to detail. You enjoy working in an ever-changing environment. You thrive on a challenging role where your skills and your use of educational technologies are always evolving. Some of the Learning Systems initiatives include e-portfolio integration with Moodle, iTunes U, an online cultural exchange portal, educational technology knowledge map, and a repository of innovative educational technology use at UVic.
